Drywall screws vs self-tapping screws
What is the drywall screw?
The main feature of drywall screws is the Phillips bugle head. Drywall screws are divided into double-thread fine thread drywall screws and single-thread coarse thread drywall screws. The biggest difference between the two is that the thread of the former is double thread. Drywall screw series is one of the most important categories in the entire fastener product line. This product is mainly used for the installation of various gypsum boards, lightweight partition walls and ceiling series.
What is the self-tapping screw?
Self-tapping screw is a kind of threaded fastener that taps and drills the matched female thread in the pilot hole of metal or non-metallic material. It can tap, drill, extrude and press the corresponding threads on the material to be consolidated according to its own threads, so that they can be closely matched with each other. The materials can be divided into carbon steel and stainless steel. For the carbon material, 1022 medium carbon steel is the main material. Self-tapping screw is usually used in doors, windows and iron sheets.
Main Differences between drywall screws and self-tapping screws
- Different characteristics. The special feature of drywall screws is the bugle-shaped head, and the main features of self-tapping screws are relatively high locking performance, low screwing torque, and much better working performance than ordinary screws. Sometimes self-tapping screws can even replace machine screws to use.
- Different classification. Drywall screws are divided into double-thread fine thread drywall screws and single-thread coarse thread drywall screws. According to the head type, self-tapping screws can be divided into round head self-tapping screws, countersunk head self-tapping screws, top post head self-tapping screws, dome wide-side head self-tapping screws, and large round head self-tapping screws, hexagonal head self-tapping screws, etc. According to the groove type, there are four kinds of self-tapping screws, including slotted head, Phillips head, eleven-character composite head, and Pozi-shaped head self-tapping screws. According to the standard, it can be divided into national standard self-tapping screws, German standard self-tapping screws, American standard self-tapping screws, and British standard self-tapping screws.
- Different uses. Drywall screws are widely used in the installation and construction of suspended ceilings, lightweight partition walls, gypsum boards and so on. Self-tapping screws are generally used on soft metal materials or nonmetallic materials without drilling low holes and tapping. With its own threads, it can make corresponding threads on the material, so that itself and the material can be well matched together.
